FELIX

Felix is a gentle giant.  He is a big child, with a scarred face that makes him look much older than 10.  At Nairobi Children’s Home, Felix kept to himself, rarely playing with the other boys.  Sometimes he would walk up to me and quietly ask me to read to him, or to push him on the swings. When I volunteered at Nairobi Children’s Home, Felix was the only boy who didn’t bully the other children.  He never stole their food, hit the other children, or cut in line for the swings.  It was touching to see a child remain above the chaos of Nairobi Children’s Home.

Updates from 2024:

Felix is an incredibly thoughtful and respectful young man. He likes to be well-dressed and is usually found wearing Kakis and a polo shirt.  He is now in his second year of college. He loves to cook and is studying food and beverage production at Thika Technical Institute.  When not at school he resides at Thika Rescue Center, a government orphanage for boys, where he oversees the kitchen and helps plan meals and allocate kitchen responsibilities. After he receives his diploma, he wants to work in the tourism industry in a hotel. Down the road, his dream is to own a house of his own.
